Smile!

Gas, back rubs, or sweet dreams? With a smile like that, who cares?!

Bath time!

Henrik's First Bath
We gave Henrik his first planned bath today, which means photos!  His first bath was a necessity after a diaper change accident, so it wasn't much fun.  Things were a little different this time around, with an ironic twist at the end.

Rough ride the first days home

Henrik comes home

Henrik came home December 10.  His next-day checkup showed that his bilirubin levels had spiked and he needed treatment for jaundice.  Symptoms of the jaundice included high-pitched crying, drowsiness, and irritability.  The drowsiness made feeding time a problem, as he didn't have the energy required for nursing, and it was a struggle to keep him awake to eat.  He basically had three modes all weekend - sleeping, eating, and temper-tantrum.  We were able to treat him at home with a photomat light; but juggling Henrik, the light, and the feeding syringe made every task a two person job.

The first sign of improvement was Henrik having a full hour of active, alert time without any fussiness Saturday night.  Henrik has been showing signs of improvement since then and, as of today, he no longer needs the damn green light!

After buying the smallest pack of diapers I could find in Henrik's size (60) yesterday for $20 because closing up cloth diapers with safety pins was a struggle, especially with vaseline coated fingers, I bought a three pack of Snappi clips for cloth diapers today.  At $7 for a three pack, they're pretty expensive, but they are soooo worth it.  They put safety pins to shame!  Putting cloth diapers on Henrik now takes a fraction of the time it used to take.  It's about as fast as closing up a disposable, so there's very little reason for us to disposables.

Finally, I'm here!

Henrik Aeon (易安) Ball

a.k.a. King Henrik, Squeaky Mouse, 小球球

Born 8 December 2009, 10:17 A.M.

weight: 3285 grams (~7lbs 4 oz)
length: 52.1 cm (~20.5 in)
APGAR: 9.9

It took 30 hours of labor, followed by a c-section, but Henrik's here and he's healthy!  He's very alert, doesn't cry a lot, and is easy to quiet when he does.  Mostly, he sleeps, with eating coming in a distant second.  We couldn't be happier with him!
